    I have just reformatted my laptop and reinstalled XP. Now, when I restart, I get a dos menu asking me if I want to start Win XP or Previous OS on C:
    copy of boot.ini file below:

    ——————————————————————————–
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
    C:=”Previous Operating System on C:”
    ———————————————————————————————–

    I’m sure I can modify this so that it autimatically starts XP, but i don’t know how.

    Can anybody help, please?

    Phil.

      I would remove the line

      C:=”Previous Operating System on C:”

      Your boot.ini then looks exactly like the standard version for Windows XP Pro.

      An alternative to Hans’ suggestion is to deselect the ‘Time to display list….’ as per the attached. Make sure your chosen OS is listed as the default!
      This sets the second line of your boot.ini to
      timeout=0
      and immediately boots to the default.
