Windows will come up with the mouse cursor in SafeMode. A normal start will put up the desktop but no mouse. Did Anti-virus, checkdisk, and a couple of reinstalls to no avail. How can W98se support the mouse in Safe Mode and be mouse-dead in Normal startup? I’m three days into this thing and hairout. Any help out there?

In the safe mode ALL drivers and devices are NOT installed. It appears that you have a two devices trying to use the same IRQ or com setting.

have you tried removing the mouse in the device manager and then rebooting

Removed mouse from Device Manager while in Safe Mode. Machine still will not load a mouse in Normal startup. (Further the mouse is still missing from Device Manager but it is there and working in Safe Mode!)

Can I safely do a Selective Start eliminating System.ini, Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Windows.ini, etc.? If the order is important give me a hint of what to leave out first. Andy
