These little goodies have probably been mentioned before, but I couldn’t find anything recent here, nor under the forums for IE, Other browsers, or Web design. So, even at the risk of being old hat to some
, I think they’re worth a fresh airing
Basically, bookmarklets are one line JavaScripts to add extra features to your browser. They are saved as a “url” (aka internet shortcut), so they execute directly from the Links or Favorites (in IE, or their equivalents in other browsers). In theory they are independent of the browser and OS. In reality it’s a good theory . But, for the programming types, many are simple enough to “debug” or adapt even without knowing jscript (those who do, can cook
their own).
They can access and manipulate pretty much anything on a web page. Typical functions get rid of annoyances like poor colour combos, resize the window, zoom text and/or graphics, or link to a search with selected text. They will help with page viewing and navigation, page development and validation, and get almost any information about a web page. They won’t bring you a though
.
