bookmarking tool that is really simple

I’ve used PowerMarks for years and it’s ideal for how I want to manage bookmarks. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well cross browser and support has stopped. I’ve looked at over 30 bookmark manager programs and they are way too complicated with features I’ll never used.

My perfect bookmark manager:
1. No folders required, I don’t want to deal with them, totally unnecessary
2. Store URL to one big list and let me add my own keywords for later search

It seems so simple but all the managers I’ve seen use folders and have features I don’t want. If I wanted to deal with deciding what folder to add a bookmark too, I’d use the browser’s manager. Is there such a thing?

I do not use a dedicated bookmark managing program, so I should not reply perhaps, but, and this is universal, you say that you have looked at over 30 programs but fail to mention any. The result could be that you get 30 replies (which is a lot) but all mention something you have already looked at. That said, I think it is good of you to mention what you would like to see in that “perfect” program.

Which browser do you use? Or do you use several and need a program to manage that? In the quite new Firefox 3 the handle of bookmarks, tagging and searching is much easier. And you could store all bookmarks in the unsorted list if you like – searching, for example via the address bar, is extremely quick.

Could I suggest using Firefox as your browser. It will allow you to just add bookmarks, put them in folders, add a tag for quick reference – for example tag a few sites as “ecology” then you can very quickly click bookmarks, move down to tags and highlight Ecology – it will pop up your recently visited ecology related websites.

With Firefox you should also add a simple add-in called Foxmarks. With Foxmarks your can quickly and automatically sync your bookmarks (and site passwords if you choose to) between multiple machines. This is awesome when you work on a laptop and then sit down at a desktop or visa versa. You will always have the same bookmarks at each location.

Foxmarks is now available for IE in a Beta vesion. I just installed it while typing this posting and it installed into IE 7 without a problem and immediately imported (upon my approval) all my bookmarks from Firefox.

Hi, do you know of any Firefox 3 extension that will allow a user to manage duplicates – not just deleting them but also moving and creating them. Bookmarks Duplicate Detector doesn’t work as fully with Firefox 3 as with Firefox 2.
