    Hello All,

I need to learn VBA for Access. I am looking for suggestions on a book that could help me with this process. I would appreciate the recommendations.

    Thanks.

If you’re familiar with VBA for other applications, then the Access 2000 Developer’s Handbook Vol 1 will give you everything you need on Access VBA. If you’re new to VBA in general, look for books on Access that are beginning to intermediate levels, which will include the basics of Access VBA.

A useful book is Steve Roman’s Access Database Design and Programming (2nd edition). Less than $20 at http://www.bookpool.com.

How different is the Access 2000 Developer’s Hanndbook from the Access 97 DEveloper’s Handbook?

I realize that the former is two volumes, but if I have the latter, is there benefit to getting the former?

If you’re working with Access 2000, yes, get the 2 volume monster! The code is mainly ADO and it exploits the new features in Access 2000. The second volume also addresses things like MSDE, which has virtually no documentation of its own because it’s really a flavor or SQL Server. I guess they assumed that if you wanted to use it, you would buy SQL Server books. shrug

Well, it’s old, but I really liked Alison Balter’s Mastering Access 97 Development. Maybe there’s a 2002 version now.

        There’s at least a 2000 version.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I can’t wait to start the learning curve.
