      Hi Melissa,

Long time no posts. Welcome back. Have you checked with HP support for any bios or driver updates? Are you up-to-date with XP patches?

Thanks Joe – no luck with either – my computer was only built a couple of months ago and we’re pretty locked down here at work! There is a BIOS update from this month but a bit wary about installing it.

Is there no indication of a .dll or .exe that caused the error?

No none at all! It is quite annoying. Sometimes BlueSoleil actually gets as far as seeing the device in the short period before Windows silently reboots. No blue screen nothing except the computer reboots. When it restarts it says that Windows has recovered from a serious error.

Following a couple of links from bccode: 1000000a – Google Search indicates a hardware problem. Nothing is very specific. BTW, you do have My Computer | Properties | Advanced | Startup and Revocery Settings | Autonatically Restart unchecked?

              Hi

just tried the don’t restart option.

              The BSOD said: IRQL_not_less_or_equal

              Stop 0x0000000A 0x000000B8 0x0000001C 0x00000000 0x804FAC79

Googling didn’t help too much. Just come up with things like dodgy RAM or overheated CPU. But I know it is something to do with this dongle…

            • #997216

The error IRQL_not_less_or_equal can be caused by faulty hardware, but in this situation it is much more likely to be a driver bug.

              • Does this dongle come with supporting software or drivers? Have you checked for updates to those?
              • Did you definitely check the HP web site for updates to your Bluetooth software – you said earlier that “There is a BIOS update from this month but a bit wary about installing it.”, I think you need to get up-to-date before doing spending more time on this.

Yes it came with BlueSoleil (1.6.1.4 is installed)
I’ve now done the BIOS update and all Windows updates but I’ve still had no luck

            • #997475

I wonder if it could be the BlueSoleil software that is crashing windows, rather than the bluetooth hardware? Have you tried contacting them?

According to their web site at http://www.bluesoleil.com/contact/index.asp%5B/url%5D you can contact technical support at support@bluesoleil.com.

Now I’ve upgraded to Blue Soleil 1.6.2.1
I did get a bit further and entered the passkey but then got the same error. Now at least the online crash report is saying somethinge more useful:

Error caused by a device driver

I recommend following the advice on the page you referenced…

              > If you know the manufacturer of the device, contact the manufacturer’s product support service for assistance.

Yes I tried e-mailing them on the 27th of January. Looks like I’ll have to hang on until next week!

              Hello:

Now we are taking the holiday of Chinese New Year, so I cannot reply your letter. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will back on FEB 5st. Please be more patient, I will reply as soon as possible when i’m back.

              Best regards
              Bluesoleil support

The dongle worked fine on my Win 2000 Dell PC. So I do think it is a driver issue.
