I am concerned about connecting this player (Samsung) to my network via an internal router which is connected to my DSL router/modem primarily from a security aspect. I feel certain it opens a hole for the connection. Would appreciate any info. or experience comments.

Hmmm, I think I’m going to move your post to the Home Networking category.

I wouldn’t have any security concerns about connecting your Blu Ray player. If there were any issues they should have surfaced by now and I haven’t read of any. I have a Roku box permanently attached to my network with no issues at all.

Well, if it is capable of opening any extra ports you can easily block those by making sure UPnP is not enabled in the router before its connected, even using ports already available for Internet access, a BluRay player attack that can be used to get to other systems on the same network seems highly unlikely.
