Block Websites for Granddaughter

I am setting up a computer for my granddaughter and would like to limit the websites that she can connect to. There are only about 6-8 sites and her email that my daughter wants her to connect to. Is there an easy way to set up so that she can only get to a small number of sites? I looked at some programs for parental control, but they all just use some rules to set the sites to visit. I would like to set the sites.

As far as I know, this is not a built-in feature of Internet Explorer. If you are running Windows Vista (or perhaps Windows 7?), there is a parental control feature in the operating system that also extends to web pages. For example, see Explore the features: Parental controls.

Whether you use Vista’s features or a third party product, look for a “white list” feature that lets you limit web access to a specified list of sites (and block ALL others). I found an article about how to do this in Vista: How To Set Up a Free Internet Filter on Windows Vista.

(Note that you will occasionally have to turn off the filter so you can update Windows and the browsers.)

Just came across your post.

If you are using IE7, you can enable the Content Advisor located in Tools, Internet Options. After this is enabled, you can build your “trusted list of sites”. If anyone using your PC visits a non-trusted site, you need to enter the Advisor password to allow it.
