    As a reminder, the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions, will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. As of this date, devices running these legacy services and software through either carrier or Wi-Fi connections will no longer reliably function, including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality….

      Good old Blackberry.  Back in the day when I did gig work for Uncle Sam we’d all be issued BB’s before going out of town to do our bit for king and country. They were modified, of course; encryption, satellite redundancy, emergency hailing, metal mil-spec body and all the rest. Always good, clear audio, and that straightforward interface that set the standard for todays phones. Barack Obama had a BB when he came into office, and he refused to give it up. So they issued him one like ours and he was a happy guy.  Eventually, someone named Jobs crawled into bed with Uncle Sam and sold him and his basement-dwellers on his new ‘more secure’ iPhone. A few months later, Obama was an unhappy guy again, and Jobs was dead.
