In February of 2024, Bitdefender released something called “Email Protection” as part of its security packages. I’ve been trying to compare it with the Kaspersky email protection, which has worked very well for me. I’ve been trying to understand…
a) …what it does. Their press release says it “scans all incoming email and clearly marks each safe or unsafe, helping users from falling victim to malware or scams.” Their regular security would kick in if you try to open an attachment, (or follow an unsafe link?).
b) … whether it would work on my setup. They say it works on “popular webmail services…and can be accessed from anywhere using any device.” In their FAQ section they say it works with outlook.com. In another question they say “it will be visible in web browsers. However, since Email Protection is primarily a webmail solution, the extent to which these labels appear in email applications like Outlook, Applie Mail, thunderbird, etc. may vary.”
I have an outlook exchange email account, which I access regularly on my android phone and Windows 10 PC through a simple “Outlook” shortcut. The Bitdefender writeup seems to say you can only use it if you access email through a web browser. I’ve been trying to find out from customer support whether it would work from my access points. So far, no clear response. Nor have I been able to find any reviews or discussions on the web.
Can anyone help me understand this? Thanks in advance.
