All this back and forth re Bitlocker is painfully confusing. What exactly shold Bitlocker settings be for Windows 11 Pro Edition, Version 23H2, Installed on ‎30/‎01/‎2024, OS build 22631.3737, Experience Pack 1000.22700.1009.0 using a MS Account?  Bitlocker is  on as is Device Encryption, done by MS.  I trust Ask Woody so please the KISS answer. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

If your recovery key is saved at

      https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

then there’s no cause for concern.

There are no settings for Device Encryption; it’s just either on or off.

Other than you need to know how to go there and FIND your recovery key should the need arise.

Log in with your Microsoft account and see if you can identify the recovery key.

For example when I log in I have a lot of older recovery keys so I’ll show this as an example:

On rare occasions sometimes machines are asked for that LONG code you see in the middle.  You have to enter it in.

If you feel that your data is not at risk for someone stealing the hard drive (it’s a desktop machine, you feel you have adequate physical security, etc) you can opt to disable bitlocker. This removes the risk that maybe/possibly you might be asked for it and you don’t have a good way to easily log in and grab that code.

We can’t make that decision for you, but you should be aware where that recovery key is and where it’s stored.

Click the link, then look for the “Recovery key” heading?

          It’s not rocket surgery.

          Why? You can delete them.
