This does not appear to be version related problem, but rather a problem that occurs depending on which link you select for your download. If you go the download site for website for filezilla-project.org, the first green button for 64 bit Windows is hosted by download.filezilla-project.org . Under the green download button is the following text “This installer may include bundled offers. Check below for more options” If you download the file using this green button you will get a file called FileZilla_3.36.0_win64-setup_bundled.exe.

If instead you select the link below for other options, you will find a link for Windows 64 bit called FileZilla_3.36.0_win64-setup.exe complete with SHA-512 for validating the file. This download comes from  filezilla-project.org/download.

Thanks for the heads up @jstillings1. When you are at the official website, you don’t expect this kind of trickery.

FileZilla’s let Sourceforge put malware in the installer for a long time now.
It has a warning on alternativeto because of this (https://alternativeto.net/software/filezilla/).

My suggestion is to use WinSCP instead, which is a better FTP client and has never bundled in junk. https://winscp.net/eng/index.php
