      Those fake Firefox updates have been around on and off for what must be something like two years now. I’m a Mozilla Support contributor so am at the sharp end so to speak, and what seems to be effective in alleviating this issue for many, is to install the add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin Other ad-blockers may work, but uBlock Origin seems to be the most effective.
