If her technical ability is somewhat low, these won’t be of much help, but I highly recommend two:
O’Reilly’s java script: The Definitive Guide
Wrox’s Professional ASP 3.0 OR Beginning ASP 3.0
I use each of these almost daily!

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

I have more input. Some of the areas of concern include:
“* Accept Web-submitted form data that is then put into an Access or Excel DB
* Accept secure CC payments via Web
* Allow for registered users who can access additional resources or
their own registration information. (I have password-protected Web
material before, but I don’t think it was really all that secure a
method.)
* Allow the user to take an online “quiz” of sorts and get automated
feedback at the end.”
Howard,
Two of these issues will come under one book. The first and last will both be covered under the topic of ASP and ADO (typiacally found in the same book). The Professional ASP 3.0 book I mentioned earlier will have some advanced techniques. I haven’t seen the book, but the Beginning ASP 3.0 will have a more basic overview of the same concepts.
As for the second item, I have another book that I haven’t even had the chance (or need) to open yet – E-Commerce Programming with ASP. I hope that when the day comes, this will be a great resource for me (assuming I haven’t moved to ASP.NET yet!!)
For the third item, this can be done a number of ways.
-You can have a login against a database of usernames and passwords. This would use ASP/ADO – which the ASP book would help with.
-Some web hosts offer security settings for each folder. This shouldn’t require a book. Of course, it’s not something you would want to try to implement for a large number of users, but it’s fine for a small number.
Hope this helps!
A year or two ago, I looked into related books.
At that time, a highly recommended book was The Geek’s Guide To Internet
Business Success by Bob Schmidt (ISBN: 0442025572). It is copyright 1997. I
purchased the book, but have not, and likely never will, read it. The book is now listed with ISBN
0471288381, Wiley appears to taken over the title/publisher so the ISBN
changed. According to http://www.bestbookbuys.com, this is a print on demand title.
Another recommended book was Peter Kent’s “Poor Richard’s Web Site :
Geek-Free, Commonsense Advice on Building a Low-Cost Web Site” (ISBN
0966103289). I never bought that one. There is now a 2nd
edition “Poor Richard’s Web Site” (ISBN 0966103203).
How about Learning Web Design by Jennifer Niederst?
Then check out http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com[/url%5D Learning good web design by looking at bad web design.(There are also two books on the subject: Web Pages That Suck and Son of Web Pages That Suck)
Top 15 Webmaster Mistakes –http://anet.net/support/hosting/15mistakes.html%5B/url%5D(Although, I don’t agree with them all.)
Bad Design Features – http://www.ratz.com/featuresbad.html%5B/url%5D
Oh well, you asked about books and I gave you books and web sites.
