Looking to see if anyone is using the above router (model F9K1103v1) as an access point.

Having ongoing problems with the router dropping the wired network connection, or just hanging up.
PC is a old Dell 4600 running XP (up to date with maintenance) network speed 100mb.
On the wireless side, using a MacBook (model A1278) running 10.6.8 and connecting at 2.4GHz the response is very slow.

The old Linksys wireless-G (model WRT54G v5) 100mb I replaced was a much better performer, but trying to upgrade my entire network to gigabit.

I did update the Belkin N750 with the latest firmware, no difference. I had no major problems with the Belkin as the primary router, but now am using a Linksys AC1900 (model EA6900) as the primary router.
I do all my backups across my network, the Linksys AC1900 has a USB 3 port, where the Belkin has only a USB 2 port.

Any advice or suggestions are welcome.
After going to the website for Belkin support and looking around, figured I was wasting my time there.

Stage two question will probably be: looking for a good gigabit wireless router to serve as an access point, if anyone has any suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Tom (aka trdcsfd)

      Resolved.
Replaced the Belkin with Netgear AC 1450 Smart Wifi Router.
Works very well as an access point, plus has bridge capabilities if I need it.

I was going to suggest you may have a dodgy router and replacement would be a good idea, but I was too slow….

Instead of Wireless N router (Belkin N750) you might invest money on 802.11ac router if you were planning for gigabit Access Point by converting router. WRT54G was a very successful Linksys router (I am a big fan of that series). But after Belkin’s take over on Linksys from Cisco I don’t know whether the Linksys router has same quality(I mean any change in technology).

Replaced the Belkin with Netgear AC 1450 Smart Wifi Router.

As I said wireless AC router will do according to your requirements.
