Has anyone used and/or able to recommend the use of Belarc Advisor?

I had some time today and ran the Windows 10 updates on a nine-year-old workstation that we have in storage. While working on the unit, I noticed that it had an app named Belarc Advisor. I don’t remember installing or using the app.

The Belarc website  https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor  indicates that the app, “… builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, network inventory, any missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser.”

    Any thoughts?

I learned about Belarc from a friend years ago. He liked it and installed it on all his computers. I used it for a time and found it useful. When I bought this computer I tried Speccy which is similar and didn’t go back to Belarc. I don’t recall any problems with Belarc.

I don’t see a comparison between Belarc and Speccy.  Speccy, as the name suggests, is about your hardware specifications – disk drives, CPU, RAM, graphics, etc.  Belarc, on the other hand, is more about your software environment – what anti-virus program do you have and is it up to date;  have all available hotfixes been applied.  Among other things, it will list your software licences and installed programs, and for each program it will indicate how recently (or otherwise) that program has been used.  I think it’s very useful.  I usually defer installing Microsoft updates for a week or two after Patch Tuesday, so during that time Belarc will tell me which updates are available but not yet installed.  Belarc has no problems that I know of, works well – as does Speccy, but they are different critters.

I’ve been using Belarc for years and it not only gives a detailed readout of your software but first it lists a very detailed snapshot of your hardware. And it does tell you if you have skipped the 14apr terrible tuesday msft ‘offering’

I use both speccy and Belarc and I think they work well together in giving an excellent picture of your sysytem as a whole. Just my opinion.

I use Belarc each month after Patch Tuesday release to check the status of missing updates.
I also use is sometimes to find license key of installed apps.
There is a small problem with Belarc as they are slow in updating the list of Windows updates (up until now April updates are still missing).

I have noticed that too. I always delay a bit so by the time I am ready they are usually up to date.\

I downloaded and installed Belarc Advisor.

The amount of data it swept-up and organized as a webpage from the PC during its initial scan was amazing.

But it also opened the question of what if any information that it organized about the computer was sent on to  Belarc.

The Belarc privacy statement  https://www.belarc.com/privacy#PartI   is cryptic at best.

      Fair warning.
