Beginning VBA question – Creating Forms (Access 2000)

I’ve been using VB6 for years and have written a few programs that work with Access databases, but now I’m trying to do something completely in Access with VBA. (No VB6 available).

My question is simply this: I want to create a form in VBA – a fill in the blanks type of form. I can do this in VB6 easily enough – but I’m scratching my head about the VBA interface. Is there a simple, onine tutorial on VBA forms in Access?

There are many books of VBA tutorials, but the language is very similar but again very different.

I was using Access for a couple of years, mainly VBA when I had the need for something executable and went over to VB6.
At first I was stuck because of all the help the Access wizards doing alot of work for me, then over to VB with nothing.

I found this lack of help to be a tonic and a great learning curve.
If you want to start your project, then I’m sure many on this site, including myself will help all they can.

I should start with the Help in the VBE editor and look at what it has to offer.
If it’s just a simple form then post some specific reuirements and we’ll see what we can do.

Yes, it’s a simple form. I found some VBA code that will do text searching and wanted to create a small db to hold some notes. The form has one text field, one listbox and two command buttons. The first text field is the search string, the listbox will be populated by the first section of each record found. The first command button will start the search, the second one clears everything. Double-clicking a listbox entry displays the whole record.

I’ve used Access for several years, so I’m familiar with a lot of the VBA language. I agree with you – discovery is the best teacher (in my case) and I just need a minor shove in the proper direction.

I’ve discovered a problem that may explain why I’m being hampered. The Controls Wizard is greyed out – no way to turn it on. Any ideas?

I think possibly a detect and repair of Access.
Check through the install, repair, for add and remove items, there should be a selection for the wiards.
If you have your table already designed, and Access repaired, I’m sure if you create a few examples you’ll get the hang of it.
