I’m a bit of a newbie to project – I’ve played around with it, but only really used it in a very simple form…

I’ve just created a project by inserting laods of other projects, and I’ve noticed that there are baselines saved. As I change the task line, the basline gets out of sync.

I’ve spent the ast half hour searching the forum, so apologies if I’m being blonde, and just can’t fine the answer, but how do I either remove all baselines – or, at the very least – get them back into sync withthe task lines on the Gantt chart???

    cheers

      Wardy,

You need to think of what the purpose of a baseline is. You create a baseline when you want to measure your progress against the original project plan. The baseline is a snapshot of the original plan.

For example, you have your project created and are ready to begin work. You would then create a baseline of the project that would look exactly like the project. Then, when you status the project and complete tasks you can compare the current project data to the baseline to see if the plan is proceeding as planned (baselined) or not.

So, as you change the task line, the baseline would be expected to get out of sync.

You can always create multiple baselines and measure against different baselines to do what if scenarios.

So are you sure you want to eliminate the original baselines? You can probably over write the existing baselines or just create a new one.

I’m combining a number of smaller projects into one lager one, and then tweaking the resources and timings. As I import each of the smaller project, they come in with baselines, so before we go live with the project, I need to tweak the baslines to reflect the ammendments I’m making to the tasks…

Select the tasks you want to rebaseline, then go to Tools, Tracking, Save Baseline and save the new baseline for the selected tasks only.
