The instructions on Microsoft’s site tell how to manually export email from Windows Mail to a file that can be copied to a flash drive and then imported into Windows Live Mail on another computer.

However the ‘copy to a flash drive’ does not work. I get a message ”The file has properties that cannot be copied’. I tried copying to a folder and coping the folder and then I tried exporting direct to the flash drive. I tried two different flash drives and no success.

A friend is trying to do this and has the same problem. He has a large amount of messages and has tried the Windows Easy Transfer software as well without success.

I successfully moved the backup over my network, but am stumped as to why the backup file will not copy to a flash.

The computer (Vista) is 32 bit.

So why can’t I copy the backup to a flash drive as MS says?

    Perplexed,
    Martha

That warning message shouldn’t prevent you from copying the file. For example, it could indicate that the copy will no longer be protected by disc or folder-level encryption, or security privileges. But then, I’ve never used Vista, so I might be missing something.

Ensure that you are doing this with full administrative permissions.
