I have access to OneDrive through my employer and I regularly backup my local files to OneDrive. It appears, however, and maybe I’m just not “in the know,” that there is a copy of those files on my local hard drive (C:\users\steve\onedrive) that takes up space on my hard drive and shrinks the total space available. Thus, it almost appears that I now have three copies of my files, two on my local hard drive (original plus the onedrive directory) and one in the cloud. Is this really the case? If so, how do I keep the cloud files and not have two copies on my local hard drive? How do I regain that storage space on my local hard drive?

AskWoody PlusDecember 20, 2021 at 3:41 pm #2407294Thank you. Words to live by, and actually, I do. I am paranoid and in addition to OneDrive, I weekly backup to two separate external USB hard drives at two different locations (work and home; that way, if one burns down, the other is still available!). I have seen too many cases where data has been lost because a backup was not done. I teach at a university and I’ve had several crying students who have lost pictures and other personal items, in addition to their schoolwork, with no backup. Oopsie! (I also have an inherent distrust of networks, so there’s that also.)
