    hello one and all!

here is what i hope is my last outlook .pst file problem, for at least a very long time. i have finally managed to get all of my .pst files all in the same place so that i can open them and read them. fine. the problem is this: i want to back them all up, as i am having some problems with the beast, and need to do yet another hard drive reformat and reinstall of all the programs that we use, and all the data that we need. long story as to why; maybe i’ll post it here another time, and ask if anyone recognizes the problem and what causes it. anyway… i can never seem to remember the path to the .pst file folder, so i usually do a search for a an e-mail that i know contains a particular phrase. from there, i find the pathway to the folder, then i just use windows explorer to make sure that’s it, then i simply copy it as i would any other folder, making sure that i name it something other than outlook. once i do that, then i can backup all my files, using nero. i then import it as a personal file and all is well (usually. see my last post for the exception to the usual.) this time, i cannot seem to find the pathway to the folder using my regular trick. no matter what i put in the criterion field for the search, it always comes back with nothing found. so, my question is this: can anyone out there please tell me the usual path to the .pst files/folder? i use windows 2000 professional, and outlook is part of office 2000 professional. if there is anything else that you need to know in order to help me, please drop me a line or post here and i will do my darnedest to help you, as you so kindly are helping me. i look forward to hearing from all y’all soon. until then, take care and God bless.

I’m not at a computer with Outlook at the moment, but… If you right-click the PST in the Folder List (the tree on the left side of the Inbox), and check Properties. Is the path indicated anywhere in the dialogs?

As Jefferson indicated: right-click the Personal Folders or whatever it’s named in the folder tree in Outlook and select Properties from the popup menu that appears. Then click Advanced… in the Properties dialog.

oh, thank you, thank you, thank you both so very much, Jefferson and Hans!!!! yup, that did it! i found the path. i have it written down, too, so that i won’t lose it, either. now i can back everything up properly. i knew that by asking here someone would be able to help me. i simply couldn’t (and still can’t) figure out why search won’t find any of the e-mails for me. it always used to. the beast hasn’t worked right since it got virii’ed just before i left town. even though i did a reformat and a clean reinstall of windows, the beast has been hinky ever since. i have one more challenge that i will be posting on the windows section. i’m certain once again that someone here will help. again, thank you both so very much!!!! take care and God bless you both.
