background picture/paper (2000 or newer)

Hi,
I need to create a headed paper where the header and footer are pictures (and actually, there’s a bitmap/vector on the right side of the document as well). In other words, I need to put a bitmap behind the text so that it doesn’t get brightened (like a watermark does) and set the rulers somehow so that the text would stay in my desired area. Ideally, of course, this should work automatically for multiple pages, but I can live without that.

I’ve tried 1) watermark, has problems streching it to the whole page, gets brightened (any workaround around that? I’ve tried messing around with brightness and contrast a bit, to no avail. I also tried darkening the image a bit before having it brightened by word, but that was pretty useless, too
2) plugging it in a a picture that’s “behind the text”. But that made me play with the rulers and that messed up the text positioning (it overlapped the graphics), also, works for one page at a time only

I’m quite clueless, any advice, hints etc? thanks a lot in advance

PS: the earlier the version of word it works with, the better.

Welcome to Woody’s Lounge!

If you want a picture on every page, you should place it in the page header (or footer). In the Layout tab of the Format | Picture tab, specify that the text should wrap around the picture. As soon as you close the header/footer, the picture will look washed out (even if you have not specified “Washed out”), but it should be OK when you print the document.

well, I tried watermarking it but I ran into another problem. My “watermark” is supposed to go right to the edge of the paper (see attachment). Maybe it’s too much to ask, I don’t know iif that is even technologically possible (ie. if printers can print right to the edge of the paper). I tried minimizing the “borders”, no good though.

If you mean that you would want the blue border on the right hand side and bottom to be printed – that’s not possible. Laser printers and inkjet printers cannot print to the edge of the paper – there is always a non-printable margin.

The “solution” professional printers use is to print on a larger paper size, and then to trim the edges.

Not sure if that’s still entirely true for all inkjet printers Hans. I reveived a photo on A4 without white borders from my brother who printed that himself. Don’t know the make and model of his printer right now, but I could ask. Maybe my Canon IP4300 is capable of that too, haven’t tried that yet. But it can print without borders on 10×15 cm.

Looking at your screenshot it looks as though you may have a graphic that is inline with text and set to the right margin, in this case you could set the right indentation for the paragraph to a negative value to move it nearer the edge of the page.
