my system seems to regularly screw up.
I saw “Go Back” fix a machine the other day.
I read the review in Znet.
Any comments favorable or otherwise about Go Back?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerNovember 29, 2001 at 12:53 pm #554922If you’re not doing so now, perhaps you just need to keep your system cleaned up. Systems don’t just “regularly screw up” by themselves. (I realize us “testers” can do that quite well, thank you very much, LOL!)

AskWoody LoungerDecember 3, 2001 at 7:09 am #555636I haven’t used Go Back. Fred Langa, who publishes a weekly newsletter ()http://www.Langa.com has been discussing backups recently.
He puts Drive Image & Ghost near the top, other file backup programs next, & ones like Go Back in the next group. However, I have read some favorable reviews in either PC World or PC Magazine.
I agree with Dreamboat. If your machine regularly “screws up”, you need to find the cause. You may be rolling back your machine so that it works for awhile, but that won’t stop it from regularly “screwing up”.
Just keep a log of things you do or changes you make to your machine. When something happens, try to be as detailed as possible. There are a lot of people here (& elsewhere) that are extremely knowledgeable & may be able to help.
Cheers,

AskWoody LoungerDecember 3, 2001 at 3:53 pm #555708Thanks for your comments. My local technician thought Zone Alarm might have been interfering with the automatic receive “feature?” of WinFaxPro10 so I uninstalled Zone Alarm. He claims I am not in much danger from whatever Zone Alarm was protecting me from. Currently I’m getting blank boxes in the middle of the tray at the bottom of the screen. They look like ghosts of previous programs or files I had open and they go away when I click on them.
He further claims that Go Back causes more problems than it solves (particularly when trying to remove a virus) because ” it inserts itself between Windows and your hard drive.” -

AskWoody LoungerDecember 4, 2001 at 1:35 am #555828I agree with Jerry. I use Zone Alarm. It can be configured to let programs connect to the internet, or block them. Since I don’t like programs connecting without my knowledge, Zone Alarm is a big help & can prevent Trojans from connecting. It also makes your computer invisible to hackers. You might contact the folks at Zone Alarm, if you think it’s causing problems.
You might be having some type of video display problem or you need to cleanup temp files, rebuild your registry, or use some cleanup tools on the registry.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 4, 2001 at 5:11 am #555842OK. I downloaded Zone Alarm, again, and installed it again.
And, I’m going to pose the question of Zone Alarm interfering with the WinFaxPro 10 to the Zone Alarm folks.
And, I’m going to hope Norton AntiVirus keeps the bugs out of my machine so my local technician doesn’t have to spend “2 hours or more” sorting through the hard drive to get a virus that escaped. His reason for suggesting I uninstall Zone Alarm.
thanks, again.
