Recently I noticed that AVG said the virus database required updating, but when I went to update it came back saying file up to date. However the icon in the system tray remains “grey”
I then noticed that this update process appeared to have been highjacked. I removed AVG, scanned and removed items found by Spybot and Malwarebytes, then re-installed ver 7 of AVG.
However the same behaviour occurs, although the update process does not now appear to be highjacked
Any suggestions as to what my next step is, or is this just an “incentive” to upgrade to ver 8?

Do you really mean AVG 7 Free? Not AVG 7.5 Free?

If the latter see here (FAQ 1855)

If the former, you are about three or four years out of date!

      BATcher

Plethora means a lot to me.

If you right click on the icon and choose to open the user interface, there is an option – in red – to upgrade to version 8.

Version 8.5 now. Has anyone looked at the new Identity Protection component in 8.5?
