Please point me to the setting on AVG that prevents it from automatically scanning my computer every time I switch on as this (rather expectantly) appears to cause it to run slowly for the duration of the scan. Thank you. Dave.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 19, 2007 at 5:44 am #1088999It may be that it is set to a certain time and if the PC isn’t on at that time, it could be set to start at computer start-up, see my screen shot.
There is, AFAIK, no setting for boot time scan, instead as I described, if missed it can (optionally) be performed at start.
In the free version there is no possibility to create more schedules. There are two: a complete test (the one you want to disable or disable missed scan done at boot time), and a scheduled update check.
The interface has changed some times, and isn’t exactly as in Doc’s tutorial.
As described by trebor, go to Scheduler, for instance via double-click on the AVG icon in the tray (Notification Area, whatever) to activate the AVG Control Center, click on Scheduled Tasks, select the “Test plan in basic mode” and click the button “Edit Schedule”. You will see a dialog as in my screen shot. Of course you can select a time when you know the PC will be on but not used in an extensive way.
Could also go via Start > AVG Free Edition > AVG Free Edition Test Center and select the Scheduler.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 19, 2007 at 4:05 pm #1089037Thank you gentlemen. Just a case of knowing what tabs to click and when, I had got as far as the frame shown on the attachment but failed to click on the “Edit Schedule” tab but found advice simple to follow so I have changed the scan time to 8pm rather than 8am which meant that “as Argus clearly pointed out in his attachment” it launched an automatic scan at switch on. Many thanks gents. Dave.
