We have recently upgraded to XL03 from XL97, and it has one “helpful” feature that I would like to turn off. When I use a financial calculation (say, NPV) it ‘magically’ formats the result in the currency format, with a dollar sign and two decimal places. Unfortunately, most of the calculations are in thousands of dollars (sometimes millions), and I prefer not to show decimals – so I usually use “Comma[0]” format. Even if I have set the format for the particular cell as Comma[0], if I edit the formula Excel insists on re-setting the format.

Is there a way to turn off this behaviour? The MS knowledgebase has successfully hidden the answer from me, and I didn’t find it in a search here – but maybe that just betrays my poor searching abilities (or patience…)

No, I don’t think you can turn this off.

Thanks, Hans. Not the answer I wanted – but it was the answer I expected sigh
