When I try to use the Autofilter feature to find records greater than a salary, I get erratic results. For example, I look for a number greater than x, and I get a blank sheet! If I sort the list in assending order and than look for top 10, it functions correctly. If I modify the value in the custom order window for the top 10, once again I get all blanks.

Could it be that the values are interpreted as text? This can happen if the values have been imported from another application.
First, check that the relevant cells haven’t been formatted as Text in the Number tab of Format | Cells…
If this is not the case, try the following:
      – Select an empty cell.
      – Copy it to the clipboard (Edit | Copy)
      – Select the problem cells.
      – Select Edit | Paste Special…
      – Click the Add option, then click OK.
This should convert values interpreted as text to numbers.

If this doesn’t help, could you post a scaled down copy of the workbook?

The some columns had a special monetary format. I replaced it with general format and it works fine. As usual, thank you.

Since you are on Excel 2003, convert the area you autofilter to a list by means of Data|List|Create List. The list functionality includes AutoFilter along with significant options.
