I appended approximately 700 records to a table with an autonumber field (called ID) as the primary key (previously there were 5 records in this table, using numbers 1 – 5, which had been deleted)

Can anyone explain where the autonumbers generated started at 453054268??

This isn’t really important as I was just testing something but I have never seen anything like this before. It just struck me as being a bit odd.

You may have somehow set the sequence to random – check the field properties for that table. You should be able to reset the autonumber so it begins with 1 by setting it to the normal value, and doing a compact/repair.

Nope, its just set to increment, all the new records are numbered sequentially, they just start at the most abnormally large number

Anyway, nothing to lose sleep over, I’ll be deleting the table and it will probably never happen to me again smile
