Are the Office 365 Semi-Annual channel updates dated July 10 good to go or are they still on hold ?

    • #209208

It appears the new patch schedule involves waiting until the following month to consider installing. I was just beginning to send some of the July updates to some test machines…except for the July .net patches which will be skipped entirely.

I need to clarify. I’m talking about my patch schedule and not AskWoody’s.

These are August patches just released, not July. See the Master Patch List for information on July Office patches.

Has anyone applied KB4338818 July win7 security roll up to their computer? I realize the defcon status is intended to cover a broad swath of patches and updates, but if this particular update hasn’t caused problems for anyone, any reason to wait?

      • #209257

        any reason to wait

Yes, the DEFCON number is still 1.

Ok that’s good enough reason for me – thanks @pkcano. Was just hoping maybe one or two patches were ready for prime time.

      • #209263

OldBiddy, there’s a “Known issue from BSOD triggered by network monitoring tool.”  I personally will wait as I don’t want to be an unpaid beta tester.

Ok that’s good to know thanks, @cesmart4125. It’s quite disturbing that pretty much all these patches and updates are so volatile.

“They are still untried and untested.”

When do you guys think you’ll come to a conclusion?

      • #209258

“They are still untried and untested.”

The August patches were just released today. So they ARE still untried and untested.

        • #209276

I was referring to the July Patches there.

          • #209316

July Patches are at MS-DEFCON 1. (Current Microsoft patches are causing havoc. Don’t patch)
These are currently under investigation and work-in-progress due to the sheer amount of patches and issues being tracked down.
Woody’s advice is to wait until the all clear has been issued.

“There were no non-security listings this month for Office 2010”
      Music to my ears.

Sigh. Yet more update-fun and slow starting systems here. According to Microsoft we must have nothing else to do in our lives. Productivity? Who needs that.

So, frow what I understand, we don’t apply July patches; we wait for a Defcon change to apply July (and August) patches.

July patches are installed (or not) under the July DEFCON rating. It is currently DEFCON-1. It is in effect up until Patch Tuesday in August and covers ONLY July updates.

On Patch Tuesday in August, the DEFCON rating applies to August patches. The August Office non-security patches are retroactively included in the August DEFCON number. They are just released a week early.

Indeed no Office 365-patches. That means those will probably be rolled out next week together with the Win 10 patches. That means very slow starting systems for many people with a high chance for problems 🙁

Martin Brinkmann over at Ghacks has collated a run-down on each patch, should symptoms affect you and you have a pressing need to fix it/ them. As always, best to wait for Susan’s (Patch Lady) go-ahead.

Many thanks to Martin once again.
