On my laptop, I got tired of Google browser gobbling 90+ % of cpu and memory making my cooling fans sound like a jet taking off. I downloaded duckduckgo browser, and have been happy with it, with one exception. I have had an att.net account for email since the internet was made available to non-university users. I use it through a browser at:

    https://signin.att.com/

In Google, it comes right up. In ddg, I keep getting an error message, Something went wrong.

I really don’t know what to change. I am assuming ddg is blocking something att.net needs to sign in, but don’t know what.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Ron

FYI, I just tried to access that sign-in link from Chrome on my Android mobile and got the same error. I suspect it’s an issue with ATT’s site and not related to the browser.

I use it every day on my desktop chrome browser. I just tried it again, and it worked. I just tried it on chrome on my android, and it worked.

Strange. Earlier this morning, the link wasn’t working for me at all in Firefox 130, even with a fresh install “right out of the box” with no settings modified in any way. I was getting the same screen as @rrufener was.

I just tried it a couple of minutes ago with Edge fully updated and set to maximum tracking protection and maximum enhanced browsing protection and the page came up just fine. I purged Edge’s cache completely and closed it.

Waited a few minutes and tried the link with Firefox 130 fully updated and with tweaked settings for maximum enhanced tracking protection (where the settings say “this may break some sites”). The page came up just fine.

I’m inclined to believe that AT&T is having transitory issues with their sign in portal.

I just tried it again (same browser & device) and it worked this time.

Thanks for your replies. This has been going on for a few days, so it’s not just today. I guess I could use Google for email only, but every time I open it, the jet engines start again.

Perhaps it’s time to do a complete system scan with your installed anti-crapware solution. It could be that a piece of crapware installed itself into your copy of Google Chrome disguised as an add-on or extension, and that could be what’s causing “the jet engines” to fire up…the crapware is taking up a ton of your CPU’s resources trying to run, making your CPU get rather toasty.

Good thought on the scan. I ran a couple of scans which came up negative. Att.net loaded up again this morning, so I’m going to consider this as resolved.

Thanks again to all who responded.

I have been using ATT email everyday with Firefox 130 with no problems.

Maybe I should drop ddg and use Firefox. I haven’t used it in the past. Is there a learning curve? DDG is so Google -like that it’s intuitive.

I use FF with four Extensions: AdBloc Plus, Disconnect, Malwarebytes Browser Guarde, and NoScript. I also use Strict Protection and don’t store passwords or form data.

OK, I just tried it on ddg again, and it worked. I have tried a number of times each day for the past 3-4 days, and this is the first time it worked. Maybe I just had to hold my tongue right. Hopefully, it stays fixed.

      Anyway, thanks for your help.
