I have Microsoft Project Standard 2003 and I want to assign tasks to other people in our work group who are on Outlook. Should I be able to do this with this version or do I need to upgrade to Project Professional? Thanks any help.

In previous versions of Project there was a feature called Team Assign. You had to install the workgroup tools from a file called WGSetup. You could get the addin from the Project CD or from Microsoft as a free download. The features in these tools were substantially scaled down in Project 2002 when Microsoft introduced Project Server, but I beleive they were still available. I looked at Project 2003, but I have Project Professional so the Collaborate tools are different. As I recall you had an option to use this feature on the Resource toolbar. There are two fields you can add to any task view called Confirmed and Response Pending. These were how you managed what emails were sent and what was received. You additionally had to go to Tools Options and on the View tab check Automatically Accept New External Data, and on the Workgroup tab, set workgroup messaging to Email, and you could manage email accounts from Outlook from the Resource Information dialog box.

I don’t have Project 2003 Standard to look at, so this may give you a direction to look at.
