I have an ODBC connection to our AS/400 database. It seems to be working OK, but I cannot get the “save password” option to function properly when linking to tables. I check the “save password” option, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect and always has me log into the 400 for each query call. It was a pain to have to logon each time I ran one of my reports, but I just wrote my first report (for this system) with 2 nested queries and I have to logon 3 separate times for the report to run! We have definitely jumped from “pain” to “decidedly unacceptable”. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a workaround?
The only thing that I’ve found on the IBM site is a reference to Oracle, stating that the Oracle ODBC connector will not retain passwords and that this is a problem with Access.
And while I’m here, for those of you with AS/400 to Access experience: A file-based DSN fails when reading data from the 400; IBM documentation says to use a machine-based DSN. Does anyone know of a workaround to make a file-based DSN work properly???
By the way, I love the speed of the “new” site!!!
