Thanks again for another insightful piece.

One significant factor in public perception of AI, as well as many other topics circulating in popular culture, is the tendency of many to adopt the surrounding “buzz” rather than think for themselves.  The attached commentary, while not specifically AI-related, describes what happens when hype displaces common sense.

      Hi Michael,

“If you think the main point of ethics is to assuage hurt feelings and keep people happy, you’ll end up catering to people who whine, and not being fair to people who keep quiet.”

I umpired Cal Ripken and Little League for a few years. As  most umpires discover –  50% of the fans “like you” and the others don’t. Umpires are not in the “like” business but rather are the guardians of playing fair by the rules.

Like most guardians umpires do not expect to receive a bouquet of roses at home plate.

Whiners are my least favorite people and usually get the hook after a brief whining trial period. Times up.

      Quiet is good. 🙂

      Cheers

      Bravo!

An incisive covering of the topic in a few paragraphs, getting it over really clearly with depth.
