    Outlook 2010. I’ve worked through the help resources and found the same, limited info in a web search, but I can’t get Outlook to execute the archive after I’ve specified criteria. Messages just sit there in the folder. I’ve turned AutoArchive off, turned it back on, repeatedly. IMAP account not an Exchange server. What am I doing wrong?

      See if the information at Auto-Archiving IMAP mailbox.

      Remember, Autoarchive bases its decisions on date last updated which is not exposed in the UI.

        Thanks for the pointer Joe but the information in the link is mystifying to me. I don’t show an option “‘purge mail when switching folders online,” which appeared to be th solution for the correspondent. Is this option somewhere else in Outlook 2010 apart from AutoArchive? Also, I don’t understand what you mean by, “Autoarchive bases its decisions on date last updated which is not exposed in the UI.”

        Sorry for being dense.

      Did you click “Apply these settings to all folders now”?: AutoArchive settings explained

      Joe’s “date last updated” point is also explained on that page;

      When the aging period starts:
      E-mail message;
      The received date/time or when you last changed and saved the message, whichever is later.
      Marking a message as read or unread is an example of a message change.

      You can also Archive manually at File, Cleanup Tools, Archive: Archive items manually
