I thought I wouldn’t be writing this for support tonight or mutual grief — though I had it licked when I upgraded to 24H2 on March 27 but it is not to be.
My current PC is a Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 AMD. It is my 1st AMD based PC. This is a 2nd half of 2022 laptop – but Lenovo still had a ton of stock in mid 2024 and was manufacturing as late as Mar 2024 when mine was built.
System shipped with 23H2. Great PC for me (2nd Thinkpad). Upgraded the SSD to 1 TB. I know how to block OS updates in Group Policy. Curiousity got the best of me — late Nov — I upgraded to 24H2. Almost instantly regretted. Freezes when waking up. Lenovo support wanted me to send back for a MB replacement. Declined and rolled back to 23H2. All was well. Late janaury — Microsoft tells the World — 24H2 is safe guys — generally available. Feb 3 –I upgrade to 24H2 again. 3 weeks of horror. I tried every workaround in the book. Turning WiFI off before sleep. Then i began reading about the AMD + 24H2 problems across many brands.
Waited too long to roll back. Knew a clean install was needed. Could not find 23H2 downloads. Decided to go back to Win 10 22H2, which this system supports on Feb 25. It was 98% positive. Lenovo had a BIOS update and AMD Video update in March. After that I felt confident to try again on Thursday 3/27. Saturday 3/29 — regrets. Freezing upoen wake up from sleep. Power light solid. NO picture on screen. laptop is on. Monday 3/31 — had an idea to remove and reinstall the AmD video driver 4 good days — tonight — 4/3. Froze after trying to wake it up when sleeping (lid open) 75+ % battery left.
I am at my wits end. I could roll back to 10 again. Lenovo is also offering me 17 months of Premier support for $85 which gets me US reps, on site physical repair and 24 hour service. I just have the basic mail in support and limited phone CS. Just roll back to 10 and be happy?
