    Hi,

I am running Windows 7 Professional on a 64-bite PC. I just finished reading about an application named Soluto that, according to PC World, shortens the time that Windows takes to boot. Is anyone familiar with this program, and does it work?

Thank you for any advice you can give me. Happy Holidays to everyone!

      Moon,

I gave it a try and it did reduce boot times but I deleted it because it wanted to run everytime you booted. YMMV

      Hi RetiredGeek,

Thanks for your response. I am confused by your deleting the program because it ran everytime you booted. Is it not suppose to run at boot up if it is going to reduce boot time? Can you tell me why this annoyed you?

      Also, what is YMMV?

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and New Year.

      Moon,

Most boot time reducers run once and tell you what you can remove from the auto startup list to achieve the desired results. It’s been a while since I gave this program a try but as I remember it it would popup in my face every time I booted. What I do remember is that whatever it did it annoyed me. Maybe I’m just a cranky old retiree

YMMV = You’re Mileage May Vary. A commonly used abbreviation indicating that things may work differently for you on your unique machine. Adopted from the EPA’s mileage stickers on new cars.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

EDIT: I noticed you don’t list a location so in case you’re not in the USA…EPA = Environmental Protection Agency part of our government.

Thanks RetiredGeek. I am in New Mexico. We know about EPA here.

May you and yours also have a wonderful Holiday Season and a prosperous and happy New Year.

      RetiredGeek,

I downloaded and installed Soluto. It popped up the first time after installation for me to make settings. It popped up the second boot, but this time it was only its icon. After that, no pop-ups. I think that they have changed it since you used it. Also, boot time is noticeably quicker than before its installation.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and New Year.

Any program to speed up your boot time, should run once, set up conditions and parameters in your registry and startup file folder and then quit and never run again unless you run it.
Most of the things to speed up boot time have been cussed and discussed here and on other forums. It’s not black magic, just a matter of giving Windows less to do on boot up, like disabling all those redundant Services that you don’t need to have running all the time. And shutting off all those performance suckers that crawl into your Startup folder.
You can easily do all that for yourself, if you’ll read the “How to’s” on this and other forums.

Most of the things I’ve found to speed up both startup and shutdown can be put into either VB Scripts or DOS Batch Files, so they can be done over and over again on different PC’s. I’ve been using that technique for years to tune up my customer’s PC’s.

Cheers Mates and Happy New Year!
