I’ve been trying to use the Photos app and every time I try to use it I get the error message “Application cannot be started because it is currently updating”.

I tried to find out from Microsoft how to fix this – but their advice either didn’t work or wasn’t clear enough.  Same thing with 3rd party comments/videos.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this – and if so – HOW?

    Thanks.

I assume you’ve restarted your PC, not rebooted?

      cheers, Paul

This has been happening for the past couple months and I’ve Rebooted every night. I just can’t find step by step instructions or registry hacks on how to fix this bug that started after a Windows update

Rebooting and restarting are different if you have “fast start” or hibernation enabled. A restart scraps everything and starts Windows afresh, reboot loads from the cached files.

As it is an ongoing issue I would uninstall the app, restart and then reinstall the app.

Photos is embedded in Win10.  I’d have to uninstall Win10 in order to correct the problem.

This is from MS – but it doesn’t work for people either.

There should be no need to reinstall W10.

Start > Settings > Apps > select Photos > Advanced Options

Try Reset first, then Restart your device and give it a few minutes to update.

If that fails, go back to Advanced Options, then try Uninstall, then Restart your device and reinstall Photos.

Also, as Paul T says, ensure Fast Start Up is switched OFF, then Shut Down your device (instead of Restarting it) and Start Up again – that shifts all manner of gremlins, in my experience…
