Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. is Very Happy, and deservedly so.

Despite significant setbacks at the end of last year, it continues to look likely that Apple will close with a $3 trillion valuation in the near future. Apple is once again positioned as the most valuable company on Wall Street.”

Apple stuck with lawsuit claiming Tim Cook defrauded investors, despite making investors rich

..a class-action lawsuit blaming Apple CEO Tim Cook for defrauding investors refuses to go away.

The lawsuit is over a statement Cook made during a quarterly earnings call at the end of 2018.

Cook named a number of markets where iPhone sales were being affected by various economic factors but declined to include China as an area for concern. At the start of 2019, Apple revised its quarterly sales forecast downward to reflect new realities that were hurting demand in the region.

In 2020, a lawsuit claiming Cook intentionally defrauded investors who lost money during the downturn got the green light to move forward. Apple responded by challenging the lawsuit’s validity, but the court has maintained its position that the lawsuit is legitimate

      Reuters has the latest:

U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers’ decision late Monday night clears the way for shareholders led by a British pension fund to sue over a one-day plunge that wiped out $74 billion of Apple’s market value.

The lawsuit stemmed from Cook’s comment on a Nov. 1, 2018, analyst call that while Apple faced sales pressure in markets such as Brazil, India, Russia and Turkey, where currencies had weakened, “I would not put China in that category.”..

AAPL stock closes with $3 trillion market cap in historic first
      https://9to5mac.com/2023/06/30/aapl-stock-high/
      Zac Hall | June 30 2023

Apple has made history, becoming the first publicly traded company to close with a $3 trillion valuation based on market cap – $3.051 trillion to be precise. … In terms of products, Apple is planning four new iPhones with USB-C this fall. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are gaining the Dynamic Island design introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro. The latter iPhone is expected to be the first with a periscope-design lens system for enhanced optical zoom. Apple Vision Pro, the company’s all-new AR/VR product, will hit stores in the United States in early 2024. The product carries a $3,499 price tag. Corrective lenses are sold separately.”

To keep Apple stock at record highs, it is (falsely?) rumored that the company is asking everyone to buy two of their Apple Vision Pro products. Please note that as of this date these rumors can not be legitimately verified. Currently awaiting further intelligence from AskWoody Apple Experts Alex5723, PKCano, Rick Corbett, and Myst.

      For Fun:
Apple Rumors Fake Headquarters reports that all our stored photos are to be permanently deleted as of July 26, 2023 – and for the life of us there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.  🙁   Wait, incoming rumor check: Hold on, – False Alarm!

Never mind, new information has arrived that maybe there is some way to save all of our precious photos. PopSci/technology website article dated July 6, 2023 states: “Apple is killing ‘My Photo Stream.’ Should you care? This Apple service will no longer sync your photos.” https://www.popsci.com/technology/my-photo-stream-shutdown/
Popular Science offers good advice concerning this important matter.

Also, the “Verify This” website posts on July 7, 2023:
No, the end of My Photo Stream won’t delete photos from your iPhone
      https://www.verifythis.com/article/news/verify/technology-verify/apple-my-photo-stream-feature-shutdown-iphone-icloud-storage-fact-check/
Apple announced it is shutting down My Photo Stream on July 26, but users’ fears that their photos will disappear are unfounded.” Reassuring info. “Between now and July 26, users can go into My Photo Stream, click on the photos they want to keep and save them to other devices,”

And a July 7, 2023 YouTube video, only 1:52 minute explains:
“Apple’s ‘My Photo Stream’ is Shutting Down: Here’s How to Store Your Photos” = “In this video, we discuss the recent news about Apple’s decision to shut down ‘My Photo Stream’ and provide you with alternative methods to safely store your precious photos.”

This Apple News Topic has decided that the rumor that Apple photos can be saved is a ‘True rumor’, and we can all happily celebrate our walled prison, er, garden, by remembering the unwritten, and uncodified Official Apple Rule: all Apple users are to maintain a magnanimous smile upon their faces whenever discussing Apple rumors. Optional, only suggested.  🙂  Are we still Outside the Box in the Rumors Forum?

Apple Rumors Fake Headquarters reports that Apple sales are to plummet to all time lows and risk losing the Fabulous 3 Trillion Market Cap all because of suspicious rumors that Apple and USA NSA are in cahoots, colluding to spy on the Russians.
(and inquisitive minds ask – why not everyone else?)

Russia bans officials from using iPhones in U.S. spying row
      by Malcolm Owen | Jul 16, 2023

“Authorities in the country have banned officials and state employees from using Apple hardware, including iPhones and iPads. Ministries and institutions of the government are being prevented from the devices, under continued concern over alleged activities by the U.S. to spy on Russian organizations.”

Russian security service bans all Apple devices
      by Ben Lovejoy – Jul 17 2023

“The Russian security service, the FSB, has extended its earlier ban on the use of iPhones. The latest ban applies to thousands more government workers, and now includes iPads and Macs. The FSB has repeated its earlier claims that Apple has provided the NSA with a backdoor into its devices, allowing US security services to spy on Russian officials … Things escalated last month, when Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed that Apple had created a backdoor into iPhones for America’s National Security Agency (NSA).”

Apple has been quick to flat-out deny the FSB’s claims, insisting that the company has never worked with any government to insert a backdoor into any Apple product. Apple Rumors Fake Headquarters is still gathering information on the financial aspects of this latest news. Stay tuned.

Apple readies system to load up latest software onto unopened iPhones

..When a customer buys a new iPhone from an Apple retail store, the device sometimes comes with outdated software. For instance, the first iPhone 15 models out of the factory shipped with iOS 17, but iOS 17.0.1 was already available by the time the devices were available for purchase…

Apple is planning a new system for its retail stores that will update the software on iPhones prior to sale. The company has developed a proprietary pad-like device that the store can place boxes of iPhones on top of. That system can then wirelessly turn on the iPhone, update its software and then power it back down — all without the phone’s packaging ever being opened…

Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users.

Apple’s decision comes amid pressure from regulators and competitors like Google and Samsung. It also comes as RCS has continued to develop and become a more mature platform than it once was.

“Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association. We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”..

So It Is True? – Google Invades Apple Walled Garden

      No.

Apple won’t implement Google’s version with no end-to-end RCS encryption and won’t use Google’s encryption add-on.
Apple will work with GSMA on RCS encrypted version.

    • #2604005

Google will work with Apple on implementing RCS on iPhone

“Google says it is “happy to see Apple take their first step today by coming on board to embrace RCS.” The company has been a vocal critic of the iPhone’s lack of RCS degrading the messaging experience for Android users. In fact, the last “Get The Message” campaign this September equated the iPhone to a pager for not supporting the modern standard. Meanwhile, Google will “look forward to working with them to implement this on iOS in a way that works well for everyone.”

The infinite number of these outrageous walled garden invasion rumors most certainly belong in this outside the box rumors topics forum, don’t you think?

Sheriff’s Office Rescues Family of Hikers Stranded near Mt. Hood

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team initiated a rescue operation following reports of a missing family of hikers in the Mt. Hood National Forest. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a member of the party contacted dispatch using the Emergency SOS feature on an Apple iPhone. This feature sends text messages and other vital information via satellite, such as detailed location information, to emergency dispatchers.

Search and Rescue personnel deployed all-terrain resources to locate the family who had started their trip on the Salmon River Trailhead, but due to conditions, they were unable to reach the family comprised of four adults (ages 19, 32, 47, and 52) and two juveniles (ages 9 and 11). Ground crews were deployed and were able to reach the family around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. The family was cold, wet and dehydrated, but otherwise OK. The family had hiked nearly eight miles and gained more than 3,500 feet in elevation.

Additional resources were called in to reach the family, including a helicopter, but it was unable to land due to weather conditions.

A snowcat from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly before 10:00 a.m. and immediately deployed to the family’s location.

It took several hours for the snowcat to reach the hikers due to the difficult terrain, but the family was transported back to the search and rescue command post along Highway 26 at around 7:30 p.m…

End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging coming in future software update

In collaboration with the GSM Association, Apple today announced it will add support for end-to-end encryption for RCS messages. This brings RCS much closer to iMessage in terms of security standards.

The new RCS Universal Profile 3.0 including end-to-encryption was only just released today, so it’s not clear exactly when this support will ship to customers. Apple said it helped lead a cross industry effort to bring end-to-encryption to the RCS Universal Profile …

      Apple said:

Hours from death: Hawke’s Bay psychiatrist says Apple Watch saved her life

Amanda Faulkner came within 48 hours of death in January. Alerts from her smartwatch saved her life…

The consultant psychiatrist, based near Napier, had been feeling hot and fatigued and had suffered a heavy period..

“I thought I was probably just a bit anaemic,” she told the Herald.

But the Vitals app on her Apple Watch Series 10 – a treat to herself after wearing her husband Mike’s old Watch for years – told her otherwise. It was delivering notifications that her resting heart rate – usually around 55 beats per minute – had increased into the 90s…

But the alerts kept coming, with Vitals reporting outliers every morning, prompting her to visit her GP. ..

Her GP sent her immediately to the ED in Hastings for tests. Within four hours, she had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a rare type of blood cancer…

She was advised that if she had delayed medical attention, she could have died from her untreated cancer and its complications in a matter of days…
