Mrs M does NOT want AI on her iPhone, end of discussion /sigh

However, I did notice on checking that the iOS 18.2 update for her 2022 iPhone SE with iOS 18.1.1 is 2Gb+ :O

So, with that, does apple provide a method to remove/ disable/ deprovision AI within iOS 18.2 like other default apps within the OS?

It’s my understanding that Apple Intelligence & Siri are dependant on each other but, with her Siri disabled, would that option prevent AI from working (if possible within iOS)?

She does not use the iPhone for any internet browsing at all, nor is she likely to, as she has both physical and cognitive accessibility issues, which has been difficult enough for both of us over the decades (where I have to do her necessary tasks)

Uses: iMessage, Camera, SMS, Phonecalls (obv.), some cognitive games from the App Store and iCloud backups.

FWIW: She absolutely LOVES her iPhones ever since her first new 4S, many moons ago.

As it stands, I may revert to one of her older iPhones OR leave iOS 18.1.1 as it is.

NOTE: She does not want the device jailbroken either, should that be an option now or even later. (quite right IMO)

Interested to get some feedback/ workarounds on this,
    TIA

My devices capable of iOS 18.2 (and iPadOS 18.2, macOS 15.2) and Apple Intelligence have all been updated to the latest versions (18.2 and 15.2). In all cases, I was asked if I wanted to set up Apple Intelligence now or later. In all cases I chose set up later. I have not run into it with any device since (yet?). M1 MacMini, M2 Max MacBook Pro, iPhone SE2, 11″ M4 iPad Pro. I don’t use Siri.

      Some more info.
My iPhone SE2 apparently does not meet the requirements for Apple Intelligence, even it does meet the requirements for iOS 18.2. When I open Settings on the iPhone, this is what I see. Nothing about Apple Intelligence.

      iPhoneSE2

On the iPad that meets the requirements, but “Set up later” was chosen during the iOS 18.2 upgrade, there is the link to “Get Apple Intelligence.” So evidently, It is not set up on the device in use.

Here are the Apple requirements for Apple Intelligence. If the iPhone does not meet the requirements, there is nothing to worry about. If it does, choosing “Set up later” keeps it from installing.

I updated my iPhone 13 to 18.2 today which does not meet the rqmnts for AI and was not prompted for AI.  I was prompted, however, to set up Apple Pay, which I thought was strange.  I selected not now.  One other prompt to set up something which I’ve already forgotten what is was.  I’ve never had similar prompts after an iOS update before.  I think Apple is trying to trick us into something that benefits them and not us.

Apple is not trying to trick you. They are offering to set up a service that is available and you may use (or not). If you say “No” or “Set up later,” they don’t cram it down you throat anyway in the next update like ***.

AI doesn’t work on iPhone SE. AI works only on iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 and MacOS 15.

Mrs M reply, ‘this will be my last new iphone’
She will change her mind on a better day.. 😉

Thanks for the informative feedback troops.

On a relative side note: (and likely why she does not want it)

Such a fuss about nothing. What about the AI chatboot that suggested to a youngster to kill his parents.. or ChatGPT and Gemini which suggested eating poisonous mushrooms…
