Green Apples are sour. Like all the other companies – it’s mostly greenwashing. Like to 100% carbon-neutral. Good, but there are other concerns about Mother Nature. Like the use of natural resources. Good example is the automobile industry. 100% carbon neutral driving electric. Sure. But at the same time, electric cars are much bigger and heavier compared to their non-electric version. And so use more resources and energy.
So if Apple boasts about it’s green ambitions, then how about making phones that last for, well, say 10 years? Or how about repair ability? We’re green, so we churn out new models every year, knowing a good deal of our customers will ditch their old device for the latest and greatest.

People don’t throw away old devices. They trade-in, sell, pass to family members…
When trading-in at Apple the devices are re-cycled.
Isn’t everyone ignoring the “Elephant in the Room”?
Any carbon saving we make (USA), is only a drop in a bucket.
Here is why, but for SOME REASON, is almost never mentioned. Renewables = $$$$$$
I wish reviewers would stop referring to the iPhone Pro Max 5x lens as a “zoom” lens – it isn’t – it is a telephoto lens. There were rumors that the new iPhones would use a “periscope” lens system that might have allowed actual optical zooming, but that didn’t show up.
As someone fully embedded in the Apple world – and an owner of the iPhone 14 Pro Max – I can say that much of the new items don’t justify upgrades if you have a recent iPhone. (We have an iPhone 11 that we use as a house phone and it works fine and the battery is fine.). The iOS software updates are due today and I would say that if the new features work on your existing iPhone then there is no need to update. If there is a new feature that is critical for you, then get the hardware to support it.

Yes, you’re right. But to a non-photography person, the settings shown in the camera appear to be zoom factors. The fact that you can’t actually zoom smoothly between the factors would be lost on most people.
Besides, when I click the factors on my Samsung phone (.5, 1x, 2), the visualization shown appears be to a zoom.
I’ll try to be more precise in the future.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, IMO, is the only phone that makes sense to me if you are upgrading, unless your phone is older. I had a 13 Pro, and would have skipped to this (sadly, in an unfortunate incident, it was stolen, so I have a 14 Pro but it wasn’t planned).
I’m getting a Pro Max, but that gives me the primary benefit of trading my 14 Pro down to someone else for a 13 (non-pro) and the difference between that and the trade-in of mine; I’ll trade the 13 in to Apple. Then we both benefit; my friend gets a telephoto, a much nicer screen with high-refresh, Dynamic Island, an upgrade from 4GB to 6GB of RAM, the new Nightstand mode, and the emergency satellite SOS features.
For me, the camera is the one major reason for upgrading. The other things all combine perhaps into a second reason.
-The 15 Pro and Pro Max (undocumented, but discovered) have 8GB of RAM. Previous Pros had 6GB, and a lot of iPhones still have 4GB (and I keep a lot of browser tabs open at once and do other things).
-I don’t need it, but the Pro Max has a minimum of 256GB of storage, doing away with 128GB. Guessing this is because they assume the camera usage will be higher.
-Hardware acceleration of AV1 video in the new A17 Pro chip. It probably won’t be as big a thing for a little bit, but it’s definitely growing.
-Not as much the USB-C port as the fact that on the Pro models it’s a 10Gbps transfer speed, which is a significant difference in transferring large files. Maybe I’ll actually think about occasionally copying a movie or two onto my phone now with the larger storage and taking it with.
This is the first time I’ve gone larger (I’m taking a wait-and-see attitude about that), but I definitely wouldn’t have upgraded from a 14 Pro to a 15 Pro; without the 120mm telephoto, there isn’t enough to justify the upgrade until at least the 16 models. I still think the 13 Pro is one of the best phones out there, and it has over 90% of the features of a 14 Pro.

USB-C on the iPhone 15 can do much more : it can charge other devices like AirPods, it uses Display Port so it can be connected to external displays, TVs…
The minimum of 256GB for the Max Pro is partly due to default photo size of 24MP.

All good points.

iPhone 15 Models Support USB-C to Ethernet for Faster Internet Speeds
Following the launch of the iPhone 15 series today, a few readers of our website have reached out to highlight that the devices support USB-C to Ethernet adapters, allowing for a wired internet connection with faster download speeds than Wi-Fi…
All good points.
It can charge Android devices too.
