Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

jonathon,
If you have sorted it, can you post the code please?
A big part of the value of this forum is that people coming in later can find the answers to their questions.
You may even notice people who ask a question- and then come in and answer the question themselves. With no other responses. That’s fine too.
I don’t think we’ve had posts like “I had a problem like this, and I solved it like this” (although Chris Greaves’tings of code addressing problems he’s found probably come close). But that is also useful. We’re all harnessing all the value of the Internet here. I’ve found solutions to problems by posting a problem, and I’ve found solutions by searching. And I’ve found solutions by posting, and having people tell me to search!
A lot of words, just to encourage you to post your solution!
Thanks
I heartily endorse your comments. This is neither the time nor place to drag up the issue of the lost postings from the old board, but I’ve done it anyway.
I have believed for a long time (10+ years) that the value in a BBS is two fold.
(1) Searching archived posts is the main benefit. llong after someone is gone, we benefit from their knowledge. Hooray for Gutenberg and Isaac Newton.
(2) Tapping into a real live human brain is the second, and is ONLY useful if that brain can be prompted to store their thoughts in readable form.
I have been recalcitrant in posting “Code:” lately, partly because my hobby-project of scouring a LAN for VBA code has grabbed my interest.
I hope that you will continue to urge people to post “useless” stuff. It has a wonderful way of becoming a jewel down the road.
Lawrence,
Thanks for the feedback.
As an addendum.
People such as Andrew Lockton and Kevin have user Autotext usefully. I gather this is for similar documents (functionally) with different text.
This did not suit my present site, but it probably will be useful for another site I am working for part time.
If, for instance, you had a standard letter for procedure ABC, but had 10 variants on this, it would be possible to have a single template, with autotext stored according to the variants. The user could select the variant, and the text could be inserted automatically.
Forgive me if I’m not doing them justice. I’m just throwing up my impressions of the ideas which I have recieved from the forum. In this case, the ideas were not immediately applicable, but ones which I’ve been able to store for later use. It just *may* help as well. One huge template for everything does sound a little large.
