Has anyone else encountered a problem with the free 100 hour AOL trial, and the Aztech V92 modem????
Stupid if you ask me, but Packard Bell puts a V92 modem in their machines, then offers you a free 100 hourAOL trial. Thing is ( and i only found this out through numerous phonecalls – even PC World Advice didn’t know!!!).
You have to install drivers to make the modem slower to access AOL!!!! What’s the point of all that???!!

Chaps, I believe the point the lady is trying to make is the absurdity of having to slow down your 56K modem to use software provided by the manufacturer. What one uses to connect to the Internet is largely irrelevant in this case. However, AOL may require that they support the modem, which is bad business but there really isn’t much that can be done about it.

In regards to why Packard Bell does such a thing, I would venture to guess it’s because they never tested that configuration. Packard Bell PCs aren’t even available in the US market anymore; how did you wind up with one? I would certainly go to the place of purchase, armed with the information you provided here, and demand a modem that is more commonly used and will support the V92 standard – such as a US Robotics. Don’t let the manufacturer stick it to you, you paid fo it, and the customer is the reason the business exists. Without you, they don’t get a paycheck, and if you don’t come back, their business suffers.
