They’re usually out by now. Wonder if MS hit a snag?

GuestFebruary 20, 2018 at 5:53 pm #169046The good news is that none of my Windows 10 Pro 1709 boxes (including VMs) got any Windows CU since December even if no group policies are configured and the infamous AV product registry key is set. Looks like Microsoft no longer supports Windows 10 Pro 1709. But yes, 1709 is by far the most disturbing release so far and the next one certainly won’t do better (the ‘Insider’ preview is slow as well and disturbing UI bugs haven’t been fixed either). I guess it’s time Microsoft is going to look for a new CEO. The current CEO seems to be unable to steer the ship..

GuestFebruary 20, 2018 at 10:45 pm #169066Nothing so far in WUHide when checking, but I don’t think I get preview for Win 10 home.
Anyway Finally figured out why the Windows update service keeps rerunning itself at 12-12:30pm even though I disabled/stopped it at 7:30am each morning. I did research and found a forum regarding that issue:
Even those with WUHide like me, we disable/stop the service, but it would seem that it re-enables itself. Mine-oddly re-enables at around 12:30pm. In the morning at 7am I would disable the Service if it’s on before I do ccleaner and advanced system care and disk cleanup (usual routine)-but at times it’s disable as stated.
I enable the WU in manual mode just to use my WUHide program to scan and hide any updates (And from what I’ve seen are the usual system and different devices updates-old ones, and the windows defender update that downloads/installs on its own while the Month patches are hidden away and will be restored when we are at level 3). I then disable and stop the WU service after I am finished using WUHide and checking the windows update to make sure the scan showed only the week ago of when it was last scanned. I then ensure after awhile to double check to ensure the service is disabled/stopped, if it re-enables, I disable/stop again.
This has started friday at midnight when Windows Defender updated and then the software protection service. I was napping at the time and/or busy with something else. Since then it has been re-enabling at around 12pm-12:30pm (between those times) and I would disable/stop it when I return home or when I catch it in the act.
But ya know what? I shouldn’t worry about it – Because as long as the updates are hidden away, my baby is safe – That is unless there are re-releases and/or surprise new update for windows, but thanks to Woody and PK keeping us all informed, that won’t happen and everything will be okay.
I don’t know if this is caused by the window’s defender update and/or something, but perhaps it’ll be fixed down the line even when February patches are installed. But in any case if any surprises come up while I’m out, I’ll just shut off my WIFI to keep anything from downloading/installing itself.
Again-I just find this as an annoyance abit and I know it’s off topic, but I just wanted to get that off my shoulders.

AskWoody PlusFebruary 21, 2018 at 3:24 am #169136On Win 8.1 in extended support; no Preview yet. Don’t know if I’ll get them; aren’t Previews basically non-security rollups & the security updates are added when the rollup goes ‘live’ the following month?
Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.
