Win XP security alerted me my MSE antivirus protection was turned off, but the MSE panel states my computer status is protected, real time protection is on, virus and spyware definitions are up to date. Can anybody explain the contradiction to me?

AskWoody LoungerOctober 28, 2010 at 5:03 pm #1252304Sounds as if they’re not communicating properly with one another. XP security was designed to recognize many different a-v protection programs, but not all, and in this case it certainly should be recognizing MSE. The primary verification would be the MSE panel indications but I’m not sure why XP security wouldn’t be recognizing it or misreporting its status.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 28, 2010 at 9:59 pm #1252483Go into the Control Panel’s Security/Action center and see if you can configure it to show MSE as a viable AV/AM.
As in the attached photo.Otherwise it might be necessary to completely uninstall MSE and then reinstall it.
Prior to reinstalling MSE, ensure that the AV/AM section of the security action center is able to detect that no AV/AM application is installed
so that it will re-recognize it. (security center and security accounts manager should both be setup as active/automatic services) -
