Woody, I went to the Windows Support page that you had linked and it says:

      Update replacement information

This update replaces the previously released update KB4489491.

Interestingly when I went to the MS Update Catalog the Package Details state:

This update replaces the following updates:

      n/a
      So…Microsoft…which is it?
Windows 10 Pro x64 v1909, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, Windows Vista Home Premium x64

I do not see this update in my windows update que.  Is this an optional update available through “check for updates” ?   I have Win 10 v 1809 Home Edition.

KB4506578 is not the Cumulative Update released on Patch Tuesday. If it doesn’t show up in Windows Update, you shouldn’t “Check for Updates” to get it.

Thank you PKCano for clarification.  Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if discussion pertains to automatic released updates or ” check for updates”  kind of update.

I don’t do the batch patching (we have separate weeks for Dev, QA/UAT, & Prod), but I do chase down the straggler systems that sometimes barf, get missed in the pre-scans, or have patch defers.  One thing I just noticed:

ScopedViewHandler 2019-08 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4512517)
      ScopedViewHandler Last Modified: 8/9/2019
Replaced the higher number KB article
ScopedViewHandler 2019-08 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4512495)
      ScopedViewHandler Last Modified: 8/17/2019

The improvements and fixes list shrunk, and highlights lost an item.  A back out plan?

      – Robert
