I know that some of my puzzles are a little strange – ok, enough laughter all.

Anyway, Jezza’s powercut alarm clock (post 525,106) reminded me of an alarm clock event that occured to me. It was in Sydney in the dead of winter and I was use to getting up in the dark. Well, one day / night / early morning, my alarm went off, it was totally dark and I felt that I had only just gone to sleep. The alarm said 6:00am so I dragged myself out of bed and into the shower. About 30 minutes later (you have to love those long showers) while I was drying myself, I noticed that it was still pitch black hmmn

At that stage, I checked another clock and it said it was 3:30am – yuk! – stupid alarm clock (it said it was 7am – oh sure!) had got me out of bed way too early. With nothing else to do, I went to work (a very early start) but forgot to buy a new alarm clock while I was there. That night, I had to set the broken alarm clock so that it would wake me at 6am (real time!). How did I do it?

The alarm clock runs at twice the normal speed, so you set it for 12 am.

That is half correct – you are missing an important step. Also, is 12am noon or midnight?

Sorry, I meant 12 pm (noon)

Yes, I took you answer to mean noon – wasn’t there a huge government investigation into this (noon=12pm) at one stage? but it still only solves half the puzzle.

Does the time you set it not come into play? If you want it to go off 7 hours from ‘now’, you would set it to go off 14 hours from the current time.

Leif – Bingo! Well done. Although, that is still not 100% correct but I know what you mean … the missing item has to do with the definition of current time

Jezza – that was another puzzle of mine wasn’t it – I must remember that you store all these things up for later use.
