Like many other features or buzzwords that came before (blockchain, metaverse, 3D TVs, and a thousand others) — just because you can add AI to something, doesn’t mean you should.

Hah, if only! I said it before – at the turn of the century, just about everything was prefixed with ‘i’ as in we do internet. And now the same thing happens with AI. Like the latest version of AutoCAD (2024) ‘does’ AI when placing blocks. Like – really?

I think there’s a much darker side to AI. In order to work, it has to know all your doings on your pc of phone or whatever device you use. Like in the example above, you have to consent with Autodesk before you can use the AI functionality.

Microsoft’s new AI for Windows has me asking the same question over and over: Who is this even for?

Before reading on, I already had my answer in mind. It’s the same “who” that all of the changes in Windows have been for since Windows 10 arrived. I was about to reply with that, but then I thought, ya know, I should at least read the article first.

The only answer I can find is that this is for Microsoft.

And there it is.

I like your answer about how it is all for Microsoft! The move to Windows 11 is the same is also true. They have taken basic functionality from Windows 11 that has been around at least for several versions to make their improvements easier to do and control the outcome and look. Seriously I can’t move my taskbar to the side or top anymore……

Bing chat AI coming to Chrome and Safari

Microsoft has finally started rolling out Bing.com to Google Chrome and Safari and is also A/B testing a native dark theme for the ChatGPT-powered. We received a pop-up on Windows 11 and 10 that enabled Bing AI access in Google Chrome. Seemingly, some users have access to Bing AI in Safari too…

Their own “I” seems to have failed them long ago! They NEED an artificial one! Cases in point:

1. Windows 11
2. Changing the name of a Social Media platform from something cheerful and bright to something that sounds like a cat hacking up a hairball.

Like internet browsers, manufacturers such as Microsoft have long ago ago corrupted the Windows OS, turning it from a traffic cop into a swiss army knife.

From Wikipedia:

An <b>operating system</b> (<b>OS</b>) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources, and provides common services for computer programs.

If MS stuck to this definition, Windows would have a lot less bugs and problems.

If MS is looking for a project that would bring value to all its users, it should rewrite Windows from the ground up with modern languages and architecture instead of what I assume must be a mass of patched, spaghetti code tied together with bailing wire.

Why would Microsoft want to do that, now it gives its OS away for free? Where’s the benefit?

IMO Apple retains its cashpile by by sole virtue of retaining an iron grip over the hardware.

MS doesn’t even come close… so its dream of mimicking Apple’s walled garden just isn’t going to work.

Heck, MS can’t even maintain a tiny foothold in the phone market, despite years and billions trying.
