Over in the mydigitallife fora, abbodi1406 dropped this teaser yesterday for the July Win7 updates:

<<Rollup KB5015861 (and SO KB5015862) contain ESU licenses and keys support for additional years 4/5/6>>

This would be nice – I have some legacy stuff that doesn’t work well w/ W10.

My guess is that this will be for banks/enterprises only and not open to smaller firms/individuals.

I have no doubt that’s the intent… if it actually happens at all. That doesn’t mean someone won’t find a way to make it work with Win7-pro.

XP went 18? years in all if you count things like embedded support. Another 3 years of ESU would make Win7 17 years I think, so there is precedent.

Hard to imagine there won’t be any extension for W10 after just 10 years, but …

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see but I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks it would be absolutely wonderful if MS would do that for home and small business users.

Maybe they could call the second round of Win 7 ESU’s “Windows 12”. 🤓

The first 3 years cost $420.
        Judging by ESU prices for the first 3 years : year 4 – $480, year 5 – $960, year 6 – $1920

0Patch Pro is $29 per year.

Priceless, indeed.  For everything else, there’s Mastercard.

Opatch have announced that with MS stopping Extended Security Updates for Windows 7 in January 2023, they will be maintaining their security support for both Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 until January 2025 and possibly beyond subject to levels of demand at that time.

Time to reincarnate an image after nuking an SSD in disgust at MSFT’s driver signing policy for certain legacy drivers?
0Patch to the rescue for my Win7 Pro x86 test device?

        hmmm…

Getting twitchy here about browser support going forward to 2025 on Win7, Google Chrome drops support for Win7 middle of Jan 2023, wonder what other webkit or gecko based browsers will follow…then there’s 3rd party AV support.

Although Windows 7 stopped being my main system once I learned how to 1) tame Windows 10’s behavior and 2) spruce up its appearance (both of these to Windows 7 territory), I will probably continue to use Win7 as a secondary system without worries, so long as I can maintain at least half of the 14 layers of defense discussed in my “Keep Windows 7 Safe for Years to Come” thread.

That said, one could argue that the thread’s objective has already been achieved.  🙂
