    Hello,

I tried find something on this subject but didn’t see anything.
After the last update (I think) my wife’s computer will dim the screen and log her off if she doesn’t hit a key or the touchpad repeatedly.
I tried the Microsoft recommended fix to power plan creating a new setting and it didn’t work. The normal screen timeout settings and powerplan settings don’t work.
She is on Windows 11 Home.
My computer, Windows 11 PRO does not have that problem.
    Thanks for any insight.

She may have inadvertently set a screen saver (e.g. “Blank”), as they have a default “Wait” time of only 1 minute, and a check box to require log-on when resuming.

Check that Settings, Personalization, Lock screen, Screen saver (at the bottom) is set to “None”.

Thanks very much. I thought I check it but I will do so again.

B:  thank you SOSOSO much for this solution!!!  I had the same issue, it was the screen saver timing, and I can’t believe how many searches I had to go through to come back to woody’s lounge to get the answer.   No more dumb-mute screens!#*$#&**!!

        best, Naomi

      Hello,
Well, the screen saver was set to none.
I set up a screen saver as a means of testing the computer and discovered, (or saw on the internet) that if I open the settings app and leave it open, the computer does not log off and stays active for the time set in the screen saver options. Made the wife happy.
Talk about a bizarre problem. Thanks Microsoft!

That sounds like a workaround but doesn’t solve the the under lying problem. Or am I missing something in your reply?

Nope, it does not solve the problem, just a method to get around it.
I get the feeling this problem has not been seen by anyone else on the forum.
No, it is not a Dell. It’s an LG. (I should probably contact LG)

Speaking of Dell, I will never buy another Dell because of the new cheezy fragile power connector. I must have replaced it 5 times before the whole computer disintegrated because of the many times it was take apart.
      Sorry, got off topic.

I’m assuming your wife’s computer is a laptop.

This is a long shot but you could try resetting the battery.  Oddly enough I’ve fixed vexing laptop issues with a battery reset even though I was NOT running on the battery. Gone are the days of removable batteries and newer machines might not have a battery reset method.  Check your user guide.

        That said….

Power off.  Turn the laptop over and look for a pin hole for battery reset.

        Pin-Hole

Straighten out a large paper clip and gently slide the wire into the pin hole.  Don’t force anything. When all the way in, apply a LITTLE more pressure and you should hear a tiny click and feel a slight spring action.  Hold it for 20 seconds to let capacitors discharge.
