Is there a way to add a animated GIF picture to a form in Access???

Although you can put a .gif on a form, it won’t be animated, as far as I know.

You can work around this.
See the attached example taken from one of my forms.
The code behind the form should lead you in the right direction.

Hi Dave,

That works fine if you have the images as separate files. If you have an existing animated .gif, you’d have to use a graphics program such as IrfanView to extract all frames to separate files, and then put those on your form.

Yes Hans I had to do the same thing to extract the single frames for my example also.
Although it’s a work around, it can be very labour intensive depending on the amount of frames required.

I don’t think I’ve seen an Animation ActiveX out there anywhere neither.

But then again, watching the same animation time after time, wants you to throw the pc out of the window, making you think is it really worth the effort ??

I’m not in favour of busy forms, but sometimes animation can help if you want to attract the user’s attention. But in the end, it’s up to the original poster to decide.

A somewhat related question: I’d like to be able to have the background of a form show through the “transparent” portion of a .gif image. I specify the transparent color in the .gif file, but Access seems to ignore this. Does anyone know whether this can be done?

The gif is in an image control and I don’t know of any way to make the image control transparent on the form, so I doubt that it can be done. In Access, container controls like subform and image controls don’t provide that functionality. If you can do it at all, I suspect it would require API calls.

If you are still pursuing this issue, you need to install and register the GIF89.DLL ActiveX control on your system (note that the control will also need to be installed & registered on any machine where you intend to distribute your Access program).
